SHILLONG: The deficient condition of road going down towards Sohiong has appalled the CSWO and the newly formed People’s Mission to seek the intervention of the state government.
The road has been in a poor condition for years.
“It is very strange that many officials of the state cross this way yet the condition of roads go unnoticed”, the CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said in a statement on Wednesday .
The CSWO and the members of the People’s Mission informed that the condition of the road before reaching Mawmaram junction is even worse.
“The road from Mawmaram to Mawlaingut, falling under Sohiong Constituency, East Khasi Hills District was badly constructed and at some places it was hurriedly patched up with sand from the sides of the road, most probably, for the Ministers’ visit” the CSWO said.
While pointing out that the local MLA HDR Lyngdoh who is also the Cabinet Minister graced the inauguration of the 49th Branch of the Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank at Krang, East Khasi Hills on February 23, the pressure groups wanted him to lodge a complaint with the PWD on the bad condition of several stretches of road under Sohiong especially the road before reaching Mawmaram junction, and the road from Mawmaram to Mawlaingut.
The poor condition of the road caused inconvenience to the people and also caused loss to public fund and property besides endangering the lives.
The loose stones/pebbles are lying on the road, which make it difficult to ferry patients.
According to CSWO, the Minister should immediately demand repairs of the road by the contractor/s at their own cost for having cheated the public off their funds.
Road in Mawripih Village, East Khasi Hills district, too was constructed very poorly just giving a slight coat of bitumen for road metalling which would deteriorate in few months time.
“This is cheating the people off their money and roads all across the state in rural areas are in pathetic condition due to the apathy of some corrupted engineers along with Ministers and officials who ignore the bad construction of roads.” The CSWO alleged .
The CSWO along with the People’s Mission said that they intend to file a joint FIR after collection of documents from the related departments with regards to the roads, as the contractor/s of this stretch of road has allegedly misused public fund and cheated the people with very sub- standard work and, moreover, the engineers supervising has failed to do their duty though they are paid to provide good public services to the people.
“Cases of corruption will be filed against those who help in disrupting services to the public due to bribes and commissions”, the CSWO added.
