HYC asks Govt to release scholarship to students

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Nongthymmai, has asked the Deputy Chief Minister in charge in charge education RC Laloo and the department to release the pending amount of scholarship for  2014-2015 belonging to the tribal students of Meghalaya which has been pending for over 2 years.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the HYC general secretary Enlang Sawian said that the pending scholarship has affected the students as a whole and especially those who come from low economic background.
“We had asked for an appointment with the concerned Minister, but even after a month we have not got any response”, the statement said.
HYC wondered as to the plan of the government to provide Rs 2.5 lakh and a monthly stipend of Rs 3500 to the surrendered cadres of various militants outfits, who were criminal, at a time when  the government is denying scholarships to the students
“May be the Government has utilized the amount meant for the students in a wrong manner,  and if it is so, we demand a CBI probe to investigate into this matter”, HYC said
The organization also served the decline of month to the government to solve the issue and asserted that it will resort to drastic steps if the demand was not met.
