‘Council allocated Rs 16 lakh for rubber plantation’

SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has allocated over Rs 16 lakh for rubber plantation in forests managed by the Council at Lailad in Ri-Bhoi.
This was informed by Executive Member in charge Forests, Grace Kharpuri while replying to a query by HSPDP’s Mawryngkneng MDC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem.
“A total of 9000 rubber seedlings have been planted so far and the benefits shall be reaped soon as the trees were planted way back in 2006,” Kharpuri said.
While replying to a query HSPDP MDC Teilinia Thangkhiew about the expenses for the project, Kharpuri informed that the seedlings were purchased by the Council which also had to train officers and staff for the plantation process.
Meanwhile, the KHADC is awaiting the report from Hima Mylliem on allegations that portions of the graveyard under Hima Mylliem have been handed over to some church bodies. This was informed by Executive Member incharge Elaka, Lamphrang Blah while replying to a query posed by Pyniaid Sing Syiem.
“Four graveyards of the Hima Mylliem were handed over to Church bodies in the year 2009,2010,2011 and 2014 respectively,” the EM said. Meanwhile, the KHADC CEM while replying to a query by Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit on providing security to judges and additional judges said that the matter will be examined.
