SHILLONG: With an aim to resuscitate the dying Wahumkhrah, the 13th Finance Commission had sanctioned Rs 1 crore to the KHADC in installments, informed KHADC CEM P.N. Syiem on Monday.
Moving a motion in this regard, Mylliem MDC Teilinia Thangkhiew said, “In 2012, a foundation stone was laid to clean the river. Some MDCs whose constituencies the river crosses were allotted funds but the question is whether these MDCs have utilized the funds or not.”
Replying to the query, Syiem said, “Rs 9.5 lakh was to the MDCs to implement the task of cleaning the Wahumkhrah. Some MDCs have implemented the scheme except for Adelbert Nongrum.”
“Cleaning the Wahumkhrah is an extraordinary mission. It demands our sincere efforts to rejuvenate the river,” he added, while urging mass participation of the people to clean the river.
