Army steps up vigil in view of Assam election

SHILLONG: The Army has stepped up vigil in the border to thwart any subversive attempt of GNLA and other militant groups especially Ulfa during the upcoming Assembly polls in Assam.
A statement issued by Army said there is increased vigil and the Army is carrying out effective area domination activity in the border area in view of the forthcoming assembly elections, so as to ensure that terror groups like Ulfa (I), NDFB(S), GNLA, MTFA and others do not succeed in their criminal activities.
The Army said based on specific information, a joint search operation with Assam Police was launched on February 28 in Budhipara village of Goalpara district in which one Ulfa (I) terrorist was apprehended in the wee hours on Monday identified as Bhukan Nath.
One 7.65mm automatic pistol, live rounds & magazines was recovered from the cadre who is suspected to have been involved in a number of kidnappings and other acts of terror.
