SHILLONG: Police arrested KSU Mawlai Circle general secretary on charges of assaulting a shop owner of Police Bazar who had allegedly misbehaved with his female workers.
Abdul Mukit, owner of New Fashion, was nabbed and assaulted by the KSU members after some female workers alleged that the owner had misbehaved with his female workers.
The women, who work in the shop, alleged that one of the female staff had videotaped an incident where the owner of the garment store located at Khyndailad was misbehaving with one of the female workers. The women immediately informed KSU members who acted swiftly and caught Abdul Mukit and took him to the KSU office where they assaulted him before handing him over to the police.
In the meantime, Mukit’s wife Sultana Parveen filed a police complaint saying that some unknown persons had come to the shop of her husband and abducted him in a local taxi and took him to an unknown location where he was assaulted by KSU Mawlai Cirle general secretary Rapborlang Nongrum and others.
Later in the afternoon, Rapborlang Nongrum and others handed over the victim to police at Shillong Sadar Thana.
Following the complaint, the victim was removed to
Shillong Civil Hospital and admitted there and Rapborlang Nongrum was arrested.
When contacted, district police chief M. Kharkrang said the person who was accused of misbehaving with women should have been brought to police first and KSU cannot take custody of the accused.
He added that the arrested KSU leader will be produced before the court on Thursday.
