Election Commission to deploy 200 companies of CAPFs

Guwahati: Two-hundred companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPFs)  are being deployed in poll-bound Assam as per the recommendation of the Election Commission of India (ECI).The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in a messaged sent to the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam has asked the Assam government to make necessary arrangement for transportation, logistics, accommodation and deployment of these forces.
The state government has been asked to send weekly report on arrangements made in this regard.The MHA message stated that deployment of these 200 companies of CAPFs would be part of deployment of forces in the state of Assam Election 2016.Accordingly, 80 companies of CRPF including 30 companies that has already been deployed in the state, 40 companies of the BSF (including already existing eight companies), 30 companies of CISF, 20 companies of ITBP, and 30 companies of SSB.
One hundred companies of these CAPFs will be deployed in the state by March 16 next and the rest 100 companies will be in the ground by March 20 next.
These additional companies of central forces will be engaged for area domination, pre-election duties and maintenance of law and order to ensure peaceful conduct of Assembly election in the state.
The MHA message stated that these forces would remain deployed in Assam till de-induction of these forces is notified.Meanwhile, the DGP of Assam police Mukesh Sahay informed that the state police had already initiated a drive to confiscate illegal weapons available in the state before the election besides keeping a close tab on politicos-militants nexus, if any, to ensure conduct of free and fair polls in the state.
