SHILLONG: Expressing concern over the long pending inter-state border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam, the Meghalaya Indigenous Youth Federation (MIYF) has said that the neighboring state is not a competent authority to resolve the matter.
Drawing attention to the Chief Secretary’s recent statement that talks on border dispute may resume after Assam polls, the MIYF slammed the government for submitting the “territorial documents” to Assam.
“By submitting the documents the Government has given Assam a claim over the disputed land at a time when the indigenous people of Meghalaya are being harassed by the neighboring state,” the MIYF said in a recent statement. The MIYF also urged the three autonomous district councils in the state to fight for the people of the border areas.
The KHADC CEM was also urged to approach the Union government to protect the Scheduled areas within the jurisdiction of the Council.
