UPP releases first list of candidates

Guwahati: United People’s Party, which has formed an alliance with the Congress, on Sunday released the first list of candidates for the forthcoming Assam Assembly polls.
“This is the first list for 10 constituencies. In the second week of March, we will announce our second list,” United People’s Party (UPP) President U G Brahma said at a press conference.
Flanked by Congress’ Assam unit chief Anjan Dutta, Brahma announced the names of the candidates for Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar West, Kokrajhar East, Sidli, Bijni, Chapaguri, Paneri, Udalguri, Kalaigaon and Mazbat constituencies. In these places, Samnath Narzary, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Pratibha Brahma, Rwngwra Narzary, Santosh Khaklary, Hitesh Basumatary, Nandaram Boro, Dilip Boro, Babul Basumatary and Rabindra Basumatary respectively will represent UPP.
Talking about the Congress candidate list, Dutta said the party fixed the last date for applying candidature for the polls on March 8.”After the last date expires, we will scrutinise the applications and announce the list soon. We have received around 1,000 applications from across the state,” he said.
Dutta said the party was accepting Rs 1 lakh as donation from each existing MLA applicants, while it is Rs 30,000 for other applicants. (PTI)
