Madanryting CC win in Shillong Cricket League
Shillong: Madanryting CC beat Sales XI by 4 wickets in the league match of the First Division LG Shillong Cricket Tournament organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo. Electing to bat, Sales XI were all out for 132 runs in 33.3 overs. Debashish Ganguly scored 28 runs off 27 balls and Mithun Rakshit scored 25 runs off 21 balls. For Madanryting, Vishal Chettri picked up three wickets while Raju Singh and Anup Ale took two wickets each. In reply, Madanryting lost six wickets in achieving the target and scored 136 runs in 29.4 overs. Santosh Rawat remained unbeaten on 44 runs off 53 balls and Raja Rawa scored 24 runs off 27 balls. For Sales XI Swaroop Dey picked up 5/33 runs and Mithun Rakshit took 1/17 runs.
28,000 tickets for Spain-Romania football match sold in 2 hours
Bucharest: Around 28,000 tickets for the March 27 friendly football match between Spain and Romania were sold online in two hours, according to the Romanian Football Federation. The match will be played in Cluj in northwestern Romania, reports Efe. The federation’s statement on Monday said that in record time, less than two hours, all tickets for the friendly have been sold. The ticket prices ranged between 11 and 134 euros ($12 – 147). The friendly clash between Romania, the selection that will open the Euro 2016 against France, and Spain, the current European champions, has generated much excitement among the fans. (IANS)
FIFA extends Italian bans worldwide in match-fixing case
Zurich: FIFA says it imposed worldwide bans on “several officials and players” linked to match-fixing and illegal betting in Italy. The cases were already judged by the Italian soccer federation and Olympic committee who ordered national-level bans of up to five years. FIFA says in some cases officials were banned for life from “holding any kind of position”. FIFA did not identify officials and players involved in the matches, played in 2014 and 2015, which were investigated by prosecutors in Catanzaro and Catania. Last June, Catania owner Antonino Pulvirenti admitted to fixing five Serie B matches aimed at preventing the Sicilian club’s relegation to the third tier. Pulvirenti claimed in court to have made payoffs totaling 500,000 euros (USD 550,000). (AP)
ICC, Twitter join hands for  new initiative
Mumbai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) and social networking site Twitter are all set to introduce a range of new interactive experiences for the ICC World T20 in India. Twitter Trump Cards (#WorldT20Heroes), #AskCaptain and some new Twitter emojis are part of the new initiatives,  ICC has innovated with Twitter for cricket fans to get a Trump Card about their favourite players at the ICC World Twenty20 by simply Tweeting to @ICCLive with #WT20Heroes. Fans will then receive a digital Trump Card of a player with his statistics and can collect Trump Cards of all players from across the 16 teams playing in the ICC World T20! This #OnlyOnTwitter experience will be live for fans.  In addition to showcasing relevant Tweets during the game, ICC is giving cricket fans around the world a chance to make dreams come true in each of the 35 men’s ICC World T20 matches and the 13 televised Women’s  matches. Vijender increases training hours ahead of next bout
Manchester: Gearing up to face his most experienced opponent, Indian boxing star Vijender Singh is training 10 hours a day in a bid to clinch a fourth successive knockout win when he takes on Hungarian Alexander Horvath on March 12 in Liverpool. The undefeated middleweight boxer is facing a rival who has a decent record of winning 5 out of 7 fights. Vijender  will be making his first appearance in the ring this year. The former Olympic and World Championship bronze- medallist’s training includes shadow boxing, practising footwork, punching, movement, stance, speed and technique. Vijender said, “Horvath has an impressive record in his pro boxing career but I will leave no stone unturned. (PTI)
