SHILLONG: The MIYF (Shillong) along with MIYF, Ri Bhoi and Jirang circle inspected the stone quarries in the areas of Kiling, Baridua, Umtyrnga, Maikhuli, Khanapara, and others under  Ri Bhoi district bordering with Assam recently .
There were more than 100 quarries existing. The Federation inspected the quarries  to follow up the meeting between the leaders of the Federation led by its working resident Carry C Marak and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Territorial) CP Marak. The forest official had assured the Federation that action would be taken against illegal miners and transporters of stones, but in vain, the Federation said, while adding that it was found that the miners still continue to mine and transport the stones, while the forest department was silent. MIFY said that during the interaction with the miners, they  admitted that they were well aware that mining is illegal.
MIYF has asked them to stop their illegal activities and also conveyed that the organization will urge the High Court to seek stringent action as cases of illegal extraction of stones is contempt of court
