Cabinet twist to GHADC nominated MDC issue
SHILLONG: The ongoing tussle between the MUA government and the National Peoples’ Party (NPP) over the selection of nominated MDC to GHADC has taken an interesting tern with the State government, instead of clearing NPP nominee Conrad Sangma’s name, decided to recommend Congress member Selma D Shira for the post.
The NPP and its alliance had earlier decided to nominate Conrad as a member of district council (MDC) to elect him as the CEM of the autonomous council.
The decision to recommend Shira’s name was taken by the State cabinet in a meeting held here on Friday.
“Selma D Shira is a socio-political activist and Cabinet considered her name for the post of nominated MDC in GHADC,” Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told The Shillong Times after the meeting.
It may be mentioned that the GHADC Executive Committee in exercise of Rule 6 (1) of its constitution has already written to the State Governor to approve the nomination of Conrad at the earliest.
CLP meet: Meanwhile, a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Friday reviewed the present status of the promises made by the party just before the 2013 election.
Sangma said “Promises were made and now it is the responsibility of the Government to fulfill those promises.” “We are trying our best to fulfill the promises though challenges and constrains will always be there,” he said.
