SHILLONG: The catholic church here has downplayed the controversial book which highlights  that Jesus Christ was a Tamil Hindu.
The book, Christ Parichay, authored by Ganesh Savarkar, elder brother of  Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar, was re-launched on February 26 in Mumbai resulting in protests from the Christian community elsewhere in the country.
It was 70 years ago that the book was first published.
As per the claim of the author, Jesus, who was a Vishwakarma Brahmin  died in Kashmir after he was revived by using medicinal herbs (from Himalaya and Christianity was a Hindu cult.
Though the book was released at the Swatantryaveer Savarkar National Memorial in Dadar on the  death anniversary of the Hindutva leader Savarkar, the timing of the re-launch of the book written in 1946 is when the Christians meditate about the passion and death of Christ during this  Lenten season.
However, reacting to this, the Archbishop of  Shillong  Dominic Jala said that that catholic church wants to ignore it as the faith of the people is not affected by these propaganda books.
“There are many other books of similar nature, but those have not shaken Christian faith”, Jala said.  According to the Archbishop, the faithful believe in the Jesus of the Bible and Gospels  and not in any other books.
