SHILLONG: Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh informed the House on Monday that ITIs in the State will be modernized to infuse professional approach.
Replying to a question by Saleng Sangma (Independent), the minister said the government will improve the quality and the delivery system of ITIs in the State.
According to the minister, there are ten government ITIs and one private ITI functional in the State.
While the number of students in ITI Tura is 317, ITI Baghmara has 20 students.
The minister also said that there are as many as 24 instructors in ITI Tura and the number of instructors in ITI Baghmara is 20.
To a supplementary question by Jemino Mawthoh (UDP), the minister said there is a need to upgrade the infrastructure and class room facilities with better equipment, better labs and others.
She also said setting up of placement cell, initiating new trades, and up gradation of existing trade among others would be the priority of the government.
To a question by Paul Lyngdoh (UDP), the minister said the State government will shift the existing ITI at Nongpoh to a permanent building as currently, the ITI is functioning from a rented building.
The minister in her reply to a question by Witting Mawsor (HSPDP) said that an ITI for West Khasi Hills will come up at Sohpian.
Lyngdoh also said that the State government is in the process of setting up new ITIs in South West Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills.
