Lajong, RWFC to take part in U-20 All India Football tourney
SHILLONG: Two city-based clubs, Shillong Lajong FC and Royal Wahingdoh FC, will take part in the U-20 All India Football Tournament at Srilata Football Ground in Chittaranjan in West Bengal. While RWFC will take on East Bengal in their opener at 4 PM on March 16, Lajong will play their first match against Tata Football Academy at the same time on March 17. In their second match of the tourney on March 18, the Royals U-20 side will take on Mohun Bagan Sail Academy. The Reds, meanwhile, will lock horns with Salgaocar on March 19.
Nongmynsong CC win in 1st div Shillong Cricket Tournament
SHILLONG: Nongmynsong beat Pinewood Youth Cricket Club by 6 wickets in the league match of the First Division LG Shillong Cricket Tournament organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo. Nongmynsong decided to field. Being put into bat, Pinewood Youth Cricket were bundled out for 116 runs in 22.4 overs. Deep Chanda scored 18 runs off 15 balls. For Nongmynsong, Kiran BIswa picked up five wickets. While Akram Jyrwa took 2/22 runs. In reply, Nongmynsong CC loss four wickets while achieving the target. They scored 120 runs in 21.4 overs. Manish Das scored a half century 54 runs off 63 balls. John Lyngdoh and Shiningstar Lyngdoh scored 20 runs each. For Pinewood, Gopal Sunar and Shubham Thakur picked one wicket each.
Rohit bags ESPNcricinfo award for 3rd time
NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma on Monday won the Maruti Suzuki ESPN Cricinfo award for the third year while former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum won the newly constituted ‘Captain of the Year’ award. Rohit, who has won the award for his ODI double hundreds in 2013 and 2014, has won it this time for playing the ‘T20 Innings of the Year’. Rohit’s innings of 106 against South Africa at Dharamsala, has been rated as the best batting effort after voting from an eminent jury panel comprising former international captains like Ian Chappell, Courtney Walsh, John Wright, Mahela Jayawardene.
