SHILLONG: Pressure groups from Garo Hills have condemned the stand of the Congress led government to nominate Selma Shira as MDC in the GHADC.
“This act requires universal condemnation as it amounts to murder of Democracy,” said chairman of Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) Nikman Ch Marak in a statement on behalf of the pressure groups including GSU (interim), GHSMC, AAYF and ASWA.
According to Marak, the intention of the government is to snatch away power without respecting the mandate of the people.
“This is unacceptable and we would not tolerate such precedent,” Marak said and threatened to start a democratic agitation with poster campaign followed by office picketing.
