SHILLONG: GHADC Chief Executive Member Denang T Sangma on Wednesday petitioned Governor V. Shanmuganathan urging him to clear the name of Conrad Sangma as the nominated MDC in the district council.
The CEM said as per the rules, the council of ministers of Meghalaya have absolutely no say in the matter of nomination of a person as member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
He said the power of nominating an MDC lies with the Governor which is required to be exercised on the advice of the district council and not on the advice of the council of ministers.
He stated that the first meeting of the Executive Committee in GHADC had adopted a resolution to recommend Conrad Sangma as the nominated MDC and since then five months have gone by but Conrad’s name has not been cleared yet. The meeting came after the State cabinet last week recommended Congress member Selma D Shira for the nominated MDC’s post.
