SHILLONG: Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Wednesday in state Assembly that 10% of the proceeds will be collected from land owners of limestone as reclamation fund for the preservation of environment.
In reply to a question by Titosstarwell Chyne, the Minster said that mining of limestone has not been stopped, but the state government will regulate it following a series of orders by the High Court of Meghalaya.
Earlier, raising a supplementary question, Donkupar Roy (UDP) said that the traditional miners of limestone should be allowed to carry out mining in the state whereas those who use mechanized system to extract limestone can be brought under reclamation fund.
