Zoological Survey of India celebrates centenary

SHILLONG: The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) which is under the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change is celebrating “100 years of Service to the Nation”.
As part of the celebration, the Shillong chapter of ZSI is organizing a 5-day ‘National Training workshop on Fauna of hotspots-3: Eastern Himalaya’ from March 17-21.
The workshop aims at disseminating information on the rich faunal diversity of Northeast India and to equip researchers in the field of zoology on the techniques of ethical collection of faunal resources and their preservation, identification and documentation.
The inaugural function was held on Thursday and the chief guest was G.C. Kharkongor, pro-vice chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University.  A host of other dignitaries and scientists from Regional Office of the MoEFCC, Botanical Survey of India were among the attendees.
27 scholars and researchers from various universities located in Northeast India were selected to attend the training workshop.
