New Delhi: All India Sufi body on Sunday urged the Central Government to address the concern of Muslims over their security. Speaking from the platform of the World Sufi Forum, All India Ulema and Mashaikh Board president Syed Mohammad Ashraf said the riots had created a sens of fear among the minority community and to eliminate such fear, the Government should take tangible measures.
Ashraf also urged the Home Ministry to spell out measures it had taken so far to prevent communal incidents. Maulana Ashraf asked the Prime Minister to ” rectify historical mistakes” and take note of the minority community’s demands and concern. He said there have been concerted efforts to promote extremist ideologies and replace Sufism by these ideologies. His remarks came at the concluding session of the International Conference on Sufism, attended by a massive gathering at the Ramlila Maidan here. The conference was inagurated at Vigyan Bhawan here on March 17. Syed Ashraf also sought to draw the government’s attention to the abysmally low representation of Muslims in ”key positions”.
At the end of the conference, the Board also adopted a 25-point declaration calling upon the government to take solid steps to revive Sufism, which, they said was the only way to combat terrorism. (UNI)
