6247 villages covered under Food Security Act

SHILLONG: As many as 6247 villages were included under National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the state, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma said in Assembly on Monday, while replying on behalf of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Clement Marak who was absent.
In reply to a question by Metbah Lyngdoh (UDP), Sangma said that 38 villages were left out from NFSA.
To a supplementary by Lyngdoh on whether the government will follow the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to provide food grains to the beneficiaries, the Minister said that no such decision has been taken.
