SHILLONG: The United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM) will hold a candle light vigil at Motphran on March 24 at 5:30 PM to show solidarity to the 19-year-old rape and murder victim at Parmaw, 4 ½ mile, Upper Shillong.
UHM has requested participation of people from all walks of life at the vigil.
In a statement to the press on Monday, the UHM condemned the criminal act and demanded that the perpetuators of the crime be brought to booked, stating that her death is a wake-up call to the society and it is high time to raise voices as crimes against women are on the rise.
Meanwhile, the Hynniewtrep National Council Upper Shillong Circle will hold a candle light vigil on March 23 near 4th mile adjacent to Rupang office at 3 PM and has urged participation of people to show solidarity to the departed soul.
The Khasi Students’ Union Girls’ Wing has expressed grief and anger over the brutal killing of the girl and has conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family.
The union has urged the police department to take the case seriously and to take strong punitive action against them.
The United Democratic Party Women’s Wing, while condemning the inhumane and barbaric act of the perpetrators of the rape and murder of a girl at Upper Shillong, has commended the mother of one of the perpetrators for her sense of justice and morality in facilitating her son’s arrest. The women’s wing also demanded compensation to the victim’s kith and kin and prompt delivery of justice.
The Synjuk ki Kynthei Katholik, Shillong Archdiocese, Upper Shillong, has condemned the recent inhuman and barbaric rape and senseless murder of a young girl. The Synjuk demanded harshest punishment possible by the competent authorities for the perpetrators of the crime.
