MBOSE at par with any other state board: Laloo
SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education, R.C. Laloo, on Tuesday asserted that the Meghalaya Board of School of Education (MBOSE) was not at all inferior to any other state board in the country.
In reply to a question on matters related to the MBoSE posed by Embhahlang Syiemlieh (UDP), Laloo said he will not consider MBOSE as inferior. “It is equally good as any other Board. Looking at the results, we can say this,” Laloo added.
Syiemlieh wanted clarification on whether a student who passed Class VIII can appear as a private candidate for the SSLC examinations to which Laloo said that he would have to cross check the matter before giving any reply.
Raising a supplementary question, Saleng Sangma (Independent) said teachers should be trained properly so that the quality of education can be improved.
He also said that proper inspection should be carried out in the schools.
FKJGP snubs CM’s reply on Langpih encroachment
NONGSTOIN: The FKJGP Langpih Area Unit has expressed shock at Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s reply in the Assembly that there is no fresh settlement of Nepali people at Langpih.
FKJGP Langpih Area president P.K. Bani, in a press statement issued on Tuesday, said the chief minister should have sent officials from West Khasi Hills district or visited Langpih himself to ascertain the facts instead of simply false gathering information from officials of Kamrup district of Assam.
The FKJGP confirmed that more than 200 Nepali families have settled in Langpih in the last two years especially in Nongsohram, Langpih, Umshum and Umwahshar villages.
Molestation, rape bids in State
SHILLONG: One sixteen-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a bus conductor between Dainadubi and Baghmara in South Garo Hills.  As per a complaint lodged by one Fraycane K Sangma, on March 20, one Manik Saha, conductor of bus (ML-09-4622) molested the girl inside the bus while she was traveling from Dainadubi to Baghmara.
In another incident, on March 20 one Anthony Swer allegedly attempted to rape his domestic help in his house at Mawkasiang village in East Khasi Hills.
Two held for heroin possession
SHILLONG: Police on Monday arrested one person from Lower New Colony, Shillong and recovered three wrapped papers containing yellow/ orange powder suspected to be heroin from his possession.
On his leading, police raided the house of one Justine Jackson (20) at Lower New Colony, Shillong and recovered one Golden tobacco container containing yellow/ orange suspected to be heroin. Police have arrested Justine Jackson.
