SHILLONG: After a whirlwind tour of different parts of the country and the world, the Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC) will be performing at Nongpoh on Wednesday. This time they are putting up a charity show for the farmers of Ri Bhoi and its periphery.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, SCC Director, Neil Nongkynrih said the Choir had earlier performed in Mumbai for the farmers of Maharashtra.
“The cause of farmers is very important nationally and also for our own state. They are a neglected lot yet they are integral to our lives because they produce food for us.
The farming community are the most neglected and looked down upon. They are also the poorest. The concert is to draw attention to the plight of farmers in Meghalaya and India as a whole,” Nongkynrih said.
Neil Nongkynrih added further, “This is a world where everyone has a superstar status or wants to be one but nurses, teachers, farmers etc are some of the most neglected categories. They are not valued for the tasks they perform.
Today the Choir will be performing straight from the heart and singing Bollywood numbers, English medleys and Khasi songs.”
“It is going to be a fun evening and we will enjoy ourselves even as we provide entertainment to others.
“I hope people will turn up in large numbers and that we can raise a good sum for the cause of farmers,” Nongkynrih said.
