SHILLONG: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) would install the Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Shillong Airport at Umroi once construction of the boundary wall is completed.
Informing this over phone on Friday, Sreekumar, GM (Engineering), Airports Authority of India Regional Office, said AAI has already procured the ILS and is awaiting completion of the boundary wall.
He added that the boundary wall would be completed within 2-3 months.
Though the airport terminal was inaugurated years ago, the airport at present hosts only a single flight that connects Shillong with Kolkata.
The boundary wall and a road passing through the airport had been a bone of contention leading to undue delays in expansion of the airport but all issues have been resolved following the intervention of the High Court of Meghalaya.
Reacting to a query, Sreekumar said the runway expansion work would take another 2-3 years even as he added that at present the runway is long enough for ATR 72 aircraft to easily land and take off from the Shillong Airport.
