SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma assured the House on Wednesday that a public campaign will be initiated before fully covering agriculture areas under organic farming.
To a question by Remington Pyngrope (UDP), the chief minister denied that the government has totally stopped supplying subsidized fertilizers to the farmers in the State.
The chief minister, however, said that as per the plan of the government, there is a need to shift to organic farming by gradually stopping the use of chemical fertilizers.
To a supplementary question by Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPDP), the chief minister said the government will initiate sensitization programmes so that the farmers can completely shift from the use of chemical fertilizers to organic farming.
