SHILLONG: The Public Accounts Committee of the Meghalaya Assembly has unearthed a series of irregularities in the payment of compensation to the land owners, whose land was acquired for expansion of Umroi Airport.
The special report of the committee, headed UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh, which was placed in the Assembly   on Wednesday,    stated that the Land Acquisition Act , 1984   was not followed properly   by the officers concerned resulting huge loss to the State Government.
The committee recommended that the Revenue   and  Disaster department and the Ri Bhoi   administration   to   institute an inquiry   to   verify and confirm the rightful owner for the plot number  101 and 107  at Umden   Umsaitprah.
The Committee in its report said that there is a need to ascertain from records whether one Storia Nongbsap   has received compensation   for the plot of land   which   never belonged to her.
The Committee also suggested to ascertain and fix responsibility on the officials who committed hara-kiri in payment of compensation.
