An Iraqi military spokesman said Thursday that the long-awaited military operation to recapturethe northern city of Mosul from Islamic State militants “has begun.” The spokesman for the JointMilitary Command, Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasool, said Iraqi forces have retaken several villageson the outskirts of the town of Makhmour.
