Mother sent to jail for killing three-month-old daughter

Agartala: A mother was sent to jail by a local court in Belonia of South Tripura for allegedly killing her three months old daughter and dumped the body in the septic tank.
The court on Sunday asked police to submit case dairy and detailed investigation of the case for further proceeding and directed the police to produce the accused mother to the court on Monday.
Police said Archana Debnath of Krishnanagar village under Hrishyamukh area was arrested on Saturday night based on circumstantial evidence of killing her daughter and later during interrogation she admitted the crime.
According to report, the couple had daughters and they did not wanted second girl child in the second time. Accused husband Biplab Debnath reportedly quarrel with his wife for giving birth to a girls child.
On Saturday evening, Archana killed the infant Arpita by strangulation and dumped the body into the septic tank behind the house. Her husband was absent during the incident but her 3-years-old elder daughter was present there but could not understand the crime.
“Later, Archana made drama and started shouting that her younger daughter was stolen from the house when she was in the toilet. The villagers gathered and started questioning her and suddenly out of suspicion one of her neighbour checked the septic tank and then he found the body covered by cloths. We recovered the body and sent for postmortem,” said police.
Immediately, police had arrested Archana and during interrogation she admitted the crime and sought mercy.
She told police that the situation in the family had compelled her to kill the infant as her husband tortured on the ground. (UNI)
