Over Rs 22.89 crore required for payment of Council staff salaries

TURA: The District Council requires a whooping Rs 22,89,45,458 if it has to clear the pending salaries of its staff for the last seven months.
During the question hour on Tuesday, Independent MDC Levastone T Sangma representing Jengjal constituency sought an answer from the CEM Denang T Sangma on the amount required for paying the staff salaries which have been pending since August last year.
The CEM informed that an amount of Rs. 3,27,06,494 is required each month for the salaries of its employees. Only last month the district council was able to pay their staff the monthly dues of July 2015.
The payment of salaries was made possible after the district council went on an overdrive to collect its dues by way of taxes and the auctioning of weekly markets (Haats) and ferry ghats.
Out of the Rs 3,39,58,196/- settlement made with the lessees for bazaar haats and ferry ghats, a sum of Rs 2,02,02,876/- has already been paid by those who won the auction for the markets, informed Executive Member in charge of haats Dolly K Sangma.
The two-day budget session which began on Tuesday saw the Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Denang T Sangma, presenting the April 1 to May 31  provisional budget amounting to Rs 43,04,07,680. The budget is expected to be passed by a voice vote on Wednesday.
