2013 ILP-related arson cases

SHILLONG: A city court has framed charges against four accused persons including KSU activists for their alleged involvement in the arson case leading to the death of the tea stall owner Bisheshwar Kumar Das at Bishnupur during the agitation sponsored by 13 pressure groups for the implementation of ILP in 2013.
Though earlier the Special Court dealing with the case had withdrawn majority of the 92 criminal cases filed against the sponsors of agitation, the Court, however, retained three murder cases caused by petrol bomb attacks on 74-year-old Vidyadevi Chokani at Police Bazar on October 26, 2013, trader Vikash Nandwal (44) at Motphran on October 9 and Bisheshwar Kumar Das (50) at Bishnupur on November 16, the same year.
A lawyer dealing with the Bishnupur arson case said that the court on March 18 framed charges against the accused persons and the next date will be fixed for evidence.
Earlier, two KSU Lawsohtun unit members – Johny Sohkhlet and Readytonstone Nongrum – had been arrested in connection with setting ablaze the tea stall owner at Bishnupur, but were released on bail on May 13, 2014 after the State government revoked the order of MPDA imposed on the two.
