SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) School Association expressed dissatisfaction with the Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education RC Laloo for his comments that it is mandatory for the SSA teachers to take Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) during the recently concluded Assembly Budget Session.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Manbha K Raswai, president of the association said, “We are disappointed over his statement that the association should take up the issue with the School Managing Committee since they appointed us and not with the State Government.”
The association stated that the Government should have mentioned the TET exam as a qualifying norm before the appointment. Raswai said, “The Government should be clear regarding our service while it also should take steps to fulfill our pending demands.”With regard to the demand for increasing the salaries, he said, “The State Government disburses 10 percent of the teacher’s salary since 90 percent has been funded by the central government.”He called upon other teachers’ associations to fight and demand their rights.
He further informed that a general meeting of the association will be convened which will be attended by all the members from various district of the state and A. Rana, president of Sarva Shikhsha Abhiyan Teachers Welfare Association (SSATWA) will be present.
The association met the Union Minister of Human Resources Development (HRD), Smriti Zubin Irani on Tuesday to apprise her of their grievances where Irani had assured them that she will take up the matter seriously with the Government.
