‘Dorphang should be made accountable for HNLC’s crimes’
SHILLONG: The KSU, proscribed HNLC and legislator Julius Dorphang have come under criticism from the new president of Hynniewtrep National Peoples’ Movement (HNPM) Tony Marbaniang who has called for a change in the mind set of the politicians and pressure groups in the State.
Addressing media persons here on Thursday, Marbaniang, who assumed the post of HNPM president recently, said the mayhem created by the KSU in April, 2013 in the form of assault of non indigenous persons and vandalism of shops were unwarranted and challenged the Union for a public debate on the matter.
“The slogans like Khasis by blood and Indians by accident has no meaning as the most important thing is to be concerned about the State, its people and the humanity,” Marbaniang said.
The NGO leader wanted to know how the KSU can go against the Constitution as the citizens of the country residing in Meghalaya have the right to free movement.
Marbaniang also criticized the HNLC for calling bandhs and boycotts of days of national importance by stating that the poor sections of the society have become the worst sufferers due to this.
He also said that the former HNLC chairman and sitting Mawhati legislator Julius Dorphang cannot absolve himself of the crimes and bloodshed committed by HNLC during his tenure.
“If the US government can hunt down Osama Bin Laden for the crimes he perpetrated, as chairman of HNLC, Julius Dorphang is also accountable for the crimes committed against the people of the State,” Marbaniang said.
The NGO leader said he would follow up these issues by taking legal recourse and filing FIRs.
