Guwahati: His ministerial colleague Gautam Roy’s son, Rahul Roy, may be the richest among Congress candidates contesting in this Assam assembly polls with total assets of Rs 25 crore, but Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has modest assets of Rs 5.5 crore only.
41-year-old former MLA Rahul Roy, in fray for winning back Algapur, has immovable assets worth Rs 21,85,56,000 and movable assets of Rs 3,15,43,788 adding up to Rs 25,00,99, 788 crore, according to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) compiling its report from the affidavits filed by contesting candidates.
On the other hand, 79-year-old Tarun Gogoi, who is in fray to retain his Titabar seat for the straight fourth time, has immoveable assets worth Rs 4,55,00,000 and movable assets of Rs 99,83,759 totaling Rs 5,54,83,759.
In comparison to his son’s assets, Gautam Roy, 69, has total assets worth Rs 2.63 crore only. However, the richest contestant is lottery baron and former Congress MP Moni Kumar Subba’s 43-year old wife Jyoti Subba contesting as an Independent from Sootea constituency with total assets of Rs 288 crore, including Rs 141 crore movable and Rs 147 crore immovable assets.
The report of the Ahmedabad-based non-political group aiming at governmental and electoral reforms said 36 of the 65 Congress nominees are crorepatis. (PTI)
