NEHU, Tura supports NEHUSU against HASA

SHILLONG:  The students of NEHU, Tura campus supported the stand of North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) against the implementation of Hill Areas Special Allowance (HASA) in NEHU.
In a statement, Silning D. Sangma, president, PGSU, NEHU, Tura Campus said the HASA was removed from ordinance since 2009 and pointed out that it greatly affects the development of NEHU as a whole due to which students are suffering immensely.
Sangma stated, “I strongly oppose such kind of grants given to them whereas in Tura Campus students are staying in private hostels due to lack of facilities in the campus. The grievances of students were submitted to the authorities but nothing was fulfilled. Tura Campus do not have Regular Pro-Vice Chancellor.” He further added, “We do not have scholars’ hostel, and we have problems of poor network facility, lack of transportation, water supply and academic buildings, vacant posts”. He also said that there is no M.Phil and PhD in many departments.
