SHILLONG: With the first phase of Assam polls scheduled for Monday, Meghalaya police have made elaborate arrangements for the force domination on the highways close to the border in the context of close co-ordination existing between ULFA and GNLA militant outfits.
“Elaborate instructions were given to have domination of security forces on the highways and entry and exit routes on the Assam-Meghalaya border,” a senior police official said on Saturday.
According to the official, the attention of the police is focused on ULFA cadres in the Meghalaya border.
“A cadre known as Aprai, an IED expert, is operating in North Garo Hills and there is also presence of other ULFA cadres in Meghalaya border,” the official added.
Meghalaya police with the assistance of its counterpart in Assam had recovered IEDs not only in the North Garo Hills border but also in Goalpara, Assam recently.
Meghalaya police are also in the offensive to keep the GNLA at bay by intensifying operations in the border areas.
