Section 144 CrPC imposed against coal mining in JH

SHILLONG: The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills, has passed a prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting mining of coal in the entire district until further orders by the National Green Tribunal, transportation of coal without valid documents like royalty challan, transportation challan and others.
Assembly of persons or groups of people within 100 meters of the exit points/integrated check points like Ratacherra Weigh Bridge, Umkiang Taxation/DMR Check Gates and Byndihati Weigh Bridge and carrying of arms and lethal weapons that may likely cause injury except the  security forces have also been prohibited.
This order has been issued in pursuance of the National Green Tribunal order issued on April 17, 2014 and subsequent orders banning mining, and also in view of the NGT order on December 23 last year allowing transportation of already extracted coal up to May 15, 2016.
