FIRs against govt officials for ‘extortion’

SHILLONG: FIRs have been filed against three government officials for indulging in unfair practices.
Marshal Biam, president of North East Indigenous People Federation (NEIPF), has lodged a complaint that two officials of the Sales Tax department – Samson Pohtmi and Moon Manar – who are posted at Umkiang Checkpoint in East Jaintia Hills had extorted money from commercial vehicles plying through the Checkpoint.
Biam also lodged a complaint against Motor Vehicle Inspector Giral Lyngdoh, who is posted at Umkiang, for extorting money from commercial and private vehicles.
