Kidnappers’ gang arrested, arms recovered

SHILLONG: Following inputs that four suspected kidnappers were seen in a tea stall at Nengkhra in Garo Hills, a combined police team of Nengkhra and Dobu raided the shop and apprehended three miscreants identified as Simon G Momin (20), Birash D Marak (19) and Pranash M Sangma (21) on Saturday.
According to police, one of the miscreants who escaped from the scene was chased down by the public and handed over to the cops but not before a sound thrashing which left him injured.
The miscreant identified as Bister Momin (30) was later hospitalized.
The arrested persons revealed that they were in the process of forming a new militant organisation but had not yet decided its name.
Police informed that the group had served several demand notes in Williamnagar – Nengkhra axis and had also kidnapped one mechanic from Dobu in East Garo Hills on April 5.
The person who was abducted by the group was identified as one Propul Roy from Assam who was released after a payment of Rs 50000, Rs 28,660 of which was recovered from their possession.
Also four mobile phones and driving license of Bringstar Momin were recovered from their possession.
Later on their leading, three country made guns were also recovered.
One of the arrested persons, Simon G Momin, a former ANLA member had earlier surrendered to East Garo Hills police in 2014.
Later he continued to deal with militant groups especially the AMEF & UGSF and was arrested in 2015 for having links with AMEF.  He was out on bail at the time of his arrest on Saturday.
