Hima Mylliem row

SHILLONG: The rebel Myntris of Hima Mylliem have threatened to knock on the doors of the High Court if the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) clings to its “delaying tactics” in containing the bickering within the Hima Mylliem.
This was informed by Myntri Nongkhlaw, one of the 29 rebel Myntris.
“As per the Mylliem Act, Paiem Latho Manik Syiem cannot continue as Syiem since he has lost the confidence of the majority. Even if one Myntri steps down, the Syiem is dethroned. As of now 29 out of 42 Myntris have no confidence on the Syiem. Land owned by the Hima given out surreptitiously, financial irregularities etc., have compelled us to rebel against him,” he said.
Commenting on the delay on the part of the KHADC in resolving the dispute, he said that no order has been received yet after a meeting was called on April 4 at MDC hostel which was skipped by the supporters of Syiem which according the 29 rebel Myntris amounted to the defeat of the supporters of Syiem.
All the 29 rebel Myntris attended the meeting.
“We will wait for the call of the KHADC this week. The people are waiting for the right judgement from it to restore the honour and dignity of Hima Mylliem lost due to the Syiem and his Myntris’ corrupt practices,” Myntri Nongkhlaw said.
He further pointed out that if the present Syiem is ousted, they will enthrone Ricky Nelson from Mawlai as the successor of Hima Mylliem.
It may be mentioned that the April 4 meeting was held under the direction of the District Council.
