Mushroom poisoning toll up to 6

SHILLONG: One more person from the same family who was under treatment for consumption of poisonous mushroom died on Thursday morning taking the toll to six.
The deceased identified as Taiarlang Rapthap (15) was admitted in the ICU at Nazareth Hospital after he was shifted from Shillong Civil Hospital on Monday as his condition had worsened.
According to the relatives, Rapthap was fine till Monday, but after his body became swollen the doctors advised them to shift him to Nazareth Hospital.
As many as nine members of the family fell sick after consuming poisonous mushroom.
According to police, it was on April 4 that one Synsharlang Dewkhait (36) and his wife Tharista Rapthap (43) took mushrooms to their house, cooked and consumed them along with their six children,  grandmother, uncle and one of their cousins.
Later, all of them started vomiting and were shifted to CHC Mawsynram.
They were later referred to Shillong Civil Hospital and Ganesh Das Hospital.
However, five of them – Synsharlang Dewkhait, Tharista Rapthap, Iainehskhem Rapthap, Ioki Dewkhait and Lungrit died in the hospitals.
