SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has come forward to settle the ongoing standoff between the state government and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on several issues including nominated MDC.
The Legal and Human Rights Department of MPCC will examine all the issues pertaining to tug of war between the State government and the Council, said VGK Kynta, chairman of the   Legal and Human Rights Department.
Kynta stressed on the need to ensure that laws passed by KHADC and State Government should not create any confusion.
He also said that  there has been no such law formulated by KHADC which have exceeded the parameters of  the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Referring to Para 12 (A) of the Sixth Schedule, he, however, said laws formulated by the state government will prevail over that of Council in case of any conflict.
The legal cell of the MPCC, meanwhile, has expressed concern over the manner in which state government’s court cases are being handled and felt that appointment of lawyers has to be ‘properly scrutinized’.
Kynta said that  the Government cases has to be taken up at the right earnest and  added that such cases should be conducted by trained and experience lawyers.
