LAEF chief’s body unclaimed

SHILLONG: Three days after LAEF chief Augustine Marak  was killed in police encounter at Chichra Reserve forest 14 kms away from Rongjeng town, his body is yet to be claimed.
Police officials said that the body will be kept in the morgue for another 2 to 3 days after which hospital authorities will take necessary action.
Marak, who was the commander-in-chief of one of the splinter groups of LAEF was killed in the forest area of East Garo Hills early Wednesday morning.
The militants numbering around 10 to 12 led by Marak exchanged fire with the police resulting in a 45 minute encounter.
In the gun battle the militant chief was shot dead and another cadre identified as Walsrang N Areng hailing from Chichra Apal village was arrested. The rest of the militants fled.
