SHILLONG: The BJP has decided to put up a candidate in the by-poll to Tura Lok Sabha seat.
The seat fell vacant following the sudden demise of PA Sangma on March 4.
Speaking to The Shillong Times over phone on Friday, the National Council member of BJP from Garo Hills Edmund Sangma said that the matter was discussed with the national leaders of the party and they had given conditional nod to the state leaders asking the latter to complete the formation of  Mandals (local committees) for all the  24  constituencies within April.
Edmund also downplayed the issue of support of NPP extended to NDA  by stating that there was only one MP (PA Sangma) supporting the BJP-led NDA.
“We will have to put up candidate for the Tura seat, as there is strong support of people and voters in our favour”, he added.
He said that the party will soon submit the report on the formation of Mandals in all the 24 constituencies of Garo Hills to the central leaders  which is a pre-requisite before putting up a candidate in Tura.
