SHILLONG: There is concern over local distilleries situated in the center of the village of Shilliangdongki falling under Sohiong.
As per the photos released to the media by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing, one of the biggest distilleries belong to one Pherklat Jana,  just near Catholic St Mary’s Church and UP School.
Just ahead there are 3 more distilleries beside a stream that has been the source of drinking water and washing clothes and utensils for local residents and the spill from these distilleries has led to the formation of a dirty swamp.  Some children reported to the CSWO just a few months back that a toddler fell into this swamp as he thought it was solid ground but was fortunately saved by his elder brother.
The CSWO has urged the authorities to check this and close down the distilleries immediately or shift it far from these habitations.
