Hailstorm hits 250 houses in East Garo Hills

SHILLONG: Heavy rainfall accompanied by squall and hail is likely to hit several parts of Meghalaya and Assam this week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)  said on Monday.
The warning that storms and rainfall may occur till Friday was issued to allow the administration of the two states to prepare for any eventuality.
IMD’s warning followed cyclonic storm and hailstones lashing Meghalaya in the past 36 hours, damaging hundreds of houses and other properties all over the state.
Quoting the IMD’s warning, the state government has issued an alert to the residents of the state.
250 houses affected: Meanwhile, around 250 houses have been partially damaged  under Rongjeng C&RD Block in East Garo Hills due to a severe hailstorm which lashed the area on Sunday afternoon.
East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner CVD Diengdoh informed that he will get  final report on Tuesday.
He said that several camps had been setup and reliefs were being provided to the affected people.
