Two including infant dead in road mishaps
SHILLONG: Two persons including a four month old baby died in two separate road accidents across the State in the last couple of days.
On April 16 around 3.30 PM, an unidentified truck dashed against a Maruti 800 driven by Pherbak Nongrum at Ludaitkhla on the Shillong Bypass.
In the incident, a four month old baby died on the spot while four other occupants of the car sustained injuries and were removed to hospital. Necessary formalities have been observed.
In another incident on April 17, one truck (AS01Y 4316) driven by Balangson War overturned due to over speeding at Mawtnum, Nongpoh. In the incident, the driver sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, another incident took place on the same day when a Maruti car (ML05F 9161) driven by one Pynsuklang (24) capsized at Kyrdem Khla, Laitlyngkot.
The driver and one occupant of the vehicle sustained injuries and were removed to hospital.
AYC dismisses MDC’s ‘account hacked’ claim
TURA: The A’chik Youth Council (AYC) has not bought GHADC MDC Sofior Rahman’s claim that his account was hacked and has accused him of merely trying to deceive the public to portray himself as innocent.
In a statement issued here on Monday, the Council dared the MDC to lodge a written complaint to concerned authorities to ensure the investigation of the controversial issue if there was any truth in his claim of his account being hacked.
“If his account was really hacked, then he should file an official complaint to the authorities. What would be a better way to find out the culprit and prove his innocence other than to ensure the investigation of the matter? We dare him,” the AYC said.
At the same time, the AYC also demanded of the NPP led Garo Hills Progressive Alliance (GHPA) in the GHADC to expel the MDC from the ruling alliance and not to re-induct him in the future in the interests of the indigenous A’chik people as well as for the stability of the ruling EC.
GNLA cadre arrested in Shallang
NONGSTOIN: An early morning police operation in Shallang area on Monday led to the arrest of a GNLA cadre identified as Koltha Sangma (45) alias Airit-Pa of Dymmit B, Shallang, West Khasi Hills.
The operation was led by Circle Inspector D. Mawlein of Nongstoin.
From the procession of the cadre, police recovered four empty cartridges case of SBBl ammo, one empty cartridge case of .303 rifle ammo, two rods similar to those used as splinters in IEDs bomb detonated by GNLA, two mobile phones and one SIM.
Australian man falls off bus, hospitalized
SHILLONG: An Australian man sustained injuries after he fell off from an SPTS bus on the outskirts of the city.
The incident happened on April 16 when one Dylan Anderson was proceeding towards Queen’s Resort and fell off from the footboard of the SPTS bus he was travelling on at Baniun, Upper Shillong.
He sustained injuries and was removed to Woodland Hospital, Shillong.
BSF seizes 19 cattle
SHILLONG: The regular seizure of cattle in the bordering areas has left the smugglers in desperation.
According to a statement issued by the BSF, on April 17 and 18, BSF troops deployed at Tuka and Muktapur under East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills, respectively, seized 19 cattle being smuggled to Bangladesh from India.
Smuggling of cattle not only paves way for inflow of illegal money in the country but also severely affects the economy.
The BSF statement said that Meghalaya border which was not so prone to cattle smuggling has shown tremendous rise in such cases in the recent past.
However, the BSF troops are playing a vital role in preventing smuggling of these cattle.
The BSF also urged civilians that if any such movement is noticed in the bordering areas, the same should be communicated to the nearest BSF BOP or police post so that person playing a foul game could be booked under the law of the land.
