SHILLONG: Bangladesh Supreme Court Justice Obaidul Hassan felt nostalgic when he landed in Maheshkola, South Garo Hills on Sunday.
The reason to cherish the past was that the Judge had stayed in a relief camp for many days at Maheshkola, South Garo Hills when he was 12 years old during the 1971 Liberation War.
His father was entrusted to look after the camp then.
It is after the gap of 40 years that he is visiting Garo Hills again.
The Judge’s father Akhlaque Hossain Ahmed hailing from Netrokona village in Bangladesh close to Maheshkola later became one of the signatories of the Constitution of  Bangladesh.
The Judge along with his brother  Saiful Hassan were on a personal trip to Garo Hills which gave them time to recollect the past, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi  said over from Tura on Monday.
The duo met Bakshi and other officials of the district at Tura Circuit House.
Justice Hassan and his brother arrived in Garo Hills on April 16 and for two days they visited Maheshkola and Baghmara.
On Monday, Justice Obaidul Hassan, who is the state guest also visited Goalpara.
“We were at Moheskola and Baghmara for two days. The nature is at is best. However, the road connectivity is poor. I believe that if communication network is improved, there will be a boost in tourism from Bangladesh to Garo Hills”, Hassan remarked.
He is leaving for Bangladesh on April 20.
