Ops ‘Hillstorm 3’ to continue for 6 more months

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police have decided to continue the ongoing combat operation in Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills code-named ‘Hillstorm 3’ for another six months.
Informing this here on Monday, GHP Raju, PRO, Meghalaya Police said that during these operations, commandos have successfully neutralized several cadres of GNLA and other militant groups camping in villages.
“Additional Commando Forces have been requisitioned from the Central Government to sustain these operations during the forthcoming rainy season as well,” he said.
The Meghalaya Special Commando Force SF-10 Commandos would be inducted for sustained and relentless Counter Insurgency operations for the next six months, he said, adding  SF-10 Commandos are being equipped with state of the art weapons and equipment to deal with militants in all-weather conditions.
He said that the Police Department, as an extension to the Operation Hillstorm 3, has initiated “rural un-employed youth reach-out programme” to identify rural youth from remote villages, who are eligible for police job, and started imparting training in running 5 km for male candidates, and 3 km run for female candidates.
He said that Sohan D Shira and his band of criminals have been luring rural youth by gifting mobiles, cash to work as informers about police movements in the rural areas.
Operation Hillstorm 3 was launched by Meghalaya Police on February 24 in Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills.
