NONGSTOIN: Over loading of coal laden trucks continues in some part of Shallang area where coal trucks violate the NGT and government orders blatantly, especially those vehicles that ply from Shallang to Rongjeng.
Source informed that the coal laden trucks in Shallang area have been loading the coal beyond the permissible limit notified by the West Khasi Hills District Administration through the NGT order and Supreme court order and it has come to notice that they have continued loading up to 20 to 26 metric tons of coal per trip, which exceeds the capacity limit.
It was informed that recently at Shallang, the coal hub of the district, trucks were found to be carrying between 20-25 tons of coal in complete violation of the NGT order and there was no checking conducted in the area.
But the trucks carrying coal from Shallang – Riangdo area to Athiabari were carrying load only up to 9 metric ton which was according to the NGT order and lot of restrictions were being imposed by the authorities concerned.
Meanwhile, residents of West Khasi Hills have been complaining about the irregular checking at the infiltration check point set up at Athiabari which has been leading to continuous infiltration of non tribals without proper documents.
People from Aradonga have urged the State government to expedite the process for setting up of an entry/exit point at Athiabari.
